SAN DIEGO, Calif. (July 12, 2005) – Silicon Border Development announced today it has hired Octavio Garza as vice president of business development and administration. He will be responsible for business development for Silicon Border, as well as running the company’s newest operations in Mexicali, Mexico.

Silicon Border’s Mexico offices will be based out of the CETYS University in Mexicali, Baja California. The new office is the most recent in a series of milestones achieved for the company in the past year.

Garza comes to Silicon Border from Sony Electronics Corporation, where he spent nine years in a variety of management positions in strategic planning and administration, including deputy director responsible for manufacturing of $800M USD in electronics products annually with over 3,600 employees in Mexico. Garza is also a recognized leader in the Mexican electronics industry holding active roles in business advisory committees on curriculum for state and private universities. Garza has also held management positions with Deloitte & Touche and MONSANTO, prior to this.

He earned his bachelors degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Iberoamericana, Mexico City and his master’s degree in business administration from the Peter F. Drucker School of Management at Claremont Graduate School.

“I am excited to join Silicon Border because of the magnitude of the project and what it means for Mexico,” said Garza. “I believe this project will bring a tremendous opportunity to this country, as well as to North America overall.”

“We are excited that Octavio has joined our team.  We believe his vast experience in the semiconductor and bio-tech markets, as well as his understanding of Mexican businesses will be a great value to Silicon Border,” said DJ Hill, co-founder and chairman of Silicon Border. “Additionally, we are thrilled to announce our new office location in Mexicali. The co-location with the local technical university is ideal because it offers us direct access to some of Mexico’s finest engineering talent.”
